SOETNGO aims to reforest Mt Elgon, combating deforestation impacts by planting over 2M trees monthly, aligning with Kenya's goal of 2B trees by 2030. We aim to make the surroundings greener.
If you destroy the forest then the river will stop flowing, the rains will become irregular, the crops will fail and you will die of hunger and starvation.” Professor Wangari Maathai
SOETNGO is on a mission to reafforest Mt Elgon Forest which has been really affected by charcoal burning and fetching of firewood. This has significantly reduced the tree coverage of the forest by half. It has led to rivers almost drying up and reduced rainfall patterns and more soil erosion and browning of rivers. SOETNGO is engaging the Kenya Forest Service through eth Community Forest Association in trying to get a large space to enlarge the tree Nursery for indigenous trees.
